Welcome to Your Journey: You Are Never Alone
Assalamu alaikum, dear friend! Welcome back to Quran Lantern Academy. If you are a new Muslim (revert) reading this, we want to send you the warmest embrace. Taking the step to accept Islam is one of the most courageous decisions of a lifetime. But let’s be honest—alongside the profound peace and joy, this journey can sometimes feel overwhelming.
Perhaps your family doesn’t fully understand your new faith yet. Maybe you are struggling to balance your daily prayers with a busy work schedule, or you feel lonely on weekends. It is completely normal to experience moments of doubt, sadness, or hardship. When these heavy moments arrive, where can we look for comfort? We look to the greatest teacher of resilience: our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Lowest Point: The Journey to Ta’if
To truly understand how deeply the Prophet (PBUH) understands our human struggles, we have to look at one of the most emotionally painful episodes in Islamic history: The Year of Sorrow, followed closely by his journey to the city of Ta’if.
Imagine this: The Prophet (PBUH) had just lost his beloved wife, Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was his greatest emotional support. Shortly before that, he lost his loyal uncle, Abu Talib. To make matters worse, the people of Makkah had intensified their cruel persecution against him and the early Muslims.
Hoping to find a listening ear and a safe sanctuary, the Prophet (PBUH) walked the grueling journey of about 60 miles on foot to the nearby mountain town of Ta’if. He went there to invite the leaders to Islam, hoping for peace and protection.
Cruelty Instead of Compassion
Sadly, his hopes were shattered. The leaders of Ta’if not only rejected his message with arrogance and mockery, but they also incited the townspeople and street children against him.
As the Prophet (PBUH) tried to leave, a hostile mob chased him. They threw stones at him until his blessed shoes filled with his own blood. Exhausted, bleeding, deeply humiliated, and heartbroken, he managed to escape into a private orchard outside the city walls. He sat beneath the shade of a grapevine, completely alone.
The Ultimate Du’a (Supplication): Turning to Allah in Pain
Pause here for a moment and picture this scene. The Messenger of Allah, the best of creation, is bleeding and in physical agony. He has every right to feel abandoned. Yet, what does he do? He turns entirely to his Creator, Allah.
In that moment of raw vulnerability, he uttered a supplication that brings tears to the eyes of believers to this day. He cried out to Allah, saying:
“O Allah, to You I complain of my weakness, my lack of resources, and my low esteem before people… If You are not angry with me, I do not care what happens to me, though Your pardon is a broader relief for me.”
Look at his focus! His primary concern was not the physical stones thrown by the people, but rather: “Is Allah pleased with me?”
The Angels Respond
Right at that moment of ultimate despair, the heavens opened up. The Angel of the Mountains descended, accompanied by the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon them). The Angel of the Mountains greeted the Prophet and said, “Allah has heard what your people said to you. I am the Angel of the Mountains, and your Lord has sent me to you so that you may give me your orders. If you wish, I will crush the twin mountains together over them!”
Think about that offer. After all the cruelty, pain, and rejection, justice was ready to be served instantly.
How did the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)—the epitome of mercy—respond? Did he seek revenge? Never! Instead, with a heart overflowing with mercy, he replied:
“No! Rather, I hope that Allah will bring forth from their loins people who will worship Allah Alone, not associating anything with Him.”
Not only did he forgive them, but he prayed for their future generations. And history testifies that later on, the people of Ta’if embraced Islam in droves.
Lessons for New Muslims from the Valley of Ta’if
Dear brother or sister, why is this story so vital for you today? Because it holds profound life lessons tailored specifically for your revert journey:
- Hardship is a normal part of the prophetic path: If the greatest human being to ever walk the earth faced extreme trials, loneliness, and rejection, then experiencing hardships does not mean Allah is displeased with you. In fact, it means you are walking a path tread by the prophets.
- Your pain is heard by Allah: When you feel misunderstood by family or overwhelmed by new practices, remember the Du’a of Ta’if. Allah heard the cry of His Prophet in a lonely orchard, and He hears your whispered prayers in your room today.
- Never despair of people’s hearts: Just as Ta’if eventually turned to faith, the people in your life who may look at your Islam with skepticism today might one day become your biggest supporters. Always respond with patience, kindness, and good character.
How to Apply This in Your Daily Life
When tests and tough days come your way, how can you practically channel the spirit of Ta’if? Here are a few simple steps:
- Direct your complaints to Allah: When you feel frustrated or lonely, don’t keep it all bottled up inside. Pour your heart out to Allah in Sujood (prostration). Tell Him your weaknesses; He is the only One who can truly comfort you.
- Practice radical patience (Sabr): When friends or family members make harsh comments about your new lifestyle, take a deep breath. Respond with a smile and gentle words, remembering the beautiful character of the Prophet (PBUH).
- Look for the hidden blessing: Every trial carries a hidden gift. Use your current feelings of being an ‘outsider’ to draw closer to Allah. Remember that every single struggle is washing away your past mistakes and elevating your rank.
Conclusion
Your journey to Islam is a magnificent story written by the Author of the Universe. Just as the story of Ta’if ended in immense victory, relief, and light, your temporary struggles will also give way to peace and clarity. You are part of a global family that loves and supports you.
Here at Quran Lantern Academy, we are honored to walk beside you on this blessed path. Keep going, keep smiling, and trust in the One who holds your heart. May Allah make every step of your journey easy, fill your chest with tranquility, and surround you with His infinite love.
